Half Assed Diagnosis

The ultrasound tech was very informative and helpful. She saw bunches of cysts around my ovaries. She said that put me in the PCOS category. Doc didn't seem to think it was a big deal, he gave me some birth control pills and told me he'd see me in 3 months. Gee, thanks doc, but what about all this pain and what not. Oh, forgot about that. So he referred me to a surgeon. To be honest, I don't feel like I know anything more than what I did a couple months ago. I didn't know what questions to ask, and everything I look up on the internet about PCOS freaks me the hell out. Maybe it's not such a big deal for women who aren't trying to conceive. Who knows. I surely don't! So if the pain continues, I'll go to that surgeon, if not, then I'm not going to worry about it, noone else seems to be!

    Ah yes - the chocolate chip cookie ovaries. Welcome to my world, a world that more women are part of than they realize.

    But um, yeah. Strange. I don't believe I've ever had any pain with PCOS. (Aside from the pain in the arse of not ovulating when trying to get pregnant!)

    It could definitely explain you not feeling well as far as mentally/physically goes because your hormone levels are all messed up and that throws your entire body out of whack, but the severe pain you are in has to be something else. They didn't see any cysts or anything?

    Since they didn't even offer you medicine to help with the PCOS, I suggest putting yourself on a low carb diet. PCOS messes with your insulin levels which mess with your hormone levels. If you can fix your insulin levels (which a low-carb diet does) then you will not only lose weight (weight that is hard to lose is also a sign of pcos) then your hormone levels will start balancing out and you'll start feeling better in general.

    You don't have to go overboard and follow the Atkin's plan 100%... just skip to Phase 3 and watch your carbs/sugar. That phase says limit carbs to 50g a day, but that might not even be necessary. If you limit them to 100g a day, I bet you'll start feeling better.

    And maybe it will resolve the pain as well...
